Microsoft 365 Tenant Setup for UK Businesses

EJK Consultancy helps UK businesses set up new Microsoft 365 tenants, and rebuild ones that were created quickly and never properly finished. That covers domains, Exchange Online, Entra ID, Conditional Access, SharePoint and Teams.

A Microsoft 365 tenant is easy to create and easy to create badly. The default wizard gets people signed in. It does not give you mail flow that matches how invoices are sent, a SharePoint structure anyone can find, or Conditional Access that will survive the first week of real use.

The same checklist applies to a new tenant and to one that grew without a design: identity first, then Exchange Online, then sharing and Teams, then the details people only notice when they break.

Moving email or files as part of the build? See Exchange migrations, SharePoint migration or a tenant assessment if the current environment needs reviewing first.

What a Tenant Build Includes

Fixed-scope where the requirements are clear. Discovery first if you are migrating from Exchange, Google Workspace or another tenant.

Identity and Domains

Primary domain, UPNs that match email, Entra ID settings, admin roles and break-glass accounts before Conditional Access is switched on.

Exchange Online

Accepted domains, connectors, shared mailboxes, mail flow to scanners and applications, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Security Baseline

MFA, Conditional Access, guest access and external sharing, documented so it can be supported afterwards.

SharePoint and OneDrive

A site structure people can find, with owners, naming and sharing rules, rather than a dump of last year’s file server into a single library.

Teams Structure

Naming, owners, privacy and a sensible number of Teams, so the tenant does not fill with unused teams in the first month.

Admin Handover

A written baseline, named owners and a walkthrough so the setup does not drift the week after go-live.

Typical Starting Points

New companies, rebuilds, and tenants that were never properly finished.

A new company or subsidiary that needs Microsoft 365 before staff start
Moving off Google Workspace, hosted Exchange or a consumer Microsoft account
An acquisition that should not live in the parent tenant on day one
A tenant created quickly during a move to remote working
A setup that never received a security or mail-flow baseline
A rebuild after a merger, split or rebrand

Tenant Setup Approach

A structured build so the tenant is ready for real work, not just a successful sign-in.

1

Discovery

Domains, licences, identity source, mail dependencies and how staff actually work.

2

Design

Identity, Exchange Online, sharing, Teams and the security baseline, written down before configuration starts.

3

Build

Configure the tenant, then test mail flow, MFA and a small set of real users before go-live.

4

Handover

Admin walkthrough, named owners and a baseline document so the setup does not drift.
